Visitor management bosses in Cumbria are hoping the attractions, beautiful countryside and local personalities caught on camera will give the region’s tourism industry a timely boost.

Ian Stephens, Chief Executive of Cumbria Tourism, said: ‘This series is a great opportunity to put the Lake District and Cumbria into the homes of millions of potential visitors every week as we start a new tourism season in 2010’. There is plenty to do in the Lakes and an abundance of Lake District accommodation, all of which can prove cheaper than going on holiday abroad.

The Lakes is shown on ITV1 on Mondays at 20.00.

The Lakes, and other programmes like this, have boosted tourism in the Lake District over the past few years. Another way for local attractions to attract tourists is through local search marketing.
